Tailing Arrows
« on: January 16, 2008, 09:37:00 PM »
I got some new cedar arrows for christmas 65-70# spine, I'm shooting a fiberglass longbow at 60#. And when I shoot my arrows will tail to the right they dont fish tail back and forth they just kind of turn a little to the right when I shoot. Any idea of why this happens, and what could I do to fix. I'm not sure if it has something to do with wrist torque on the grip, or brace height. But what I do know is that the grip on my bow is really uncomfortable and I do torque it a little. What could I do to stop the torque of the grip??

being pretty new to trad shooting; i am constantly experimenting with different arrow flight from my bow.  it could be a number of things....strip the fletching off one of them and shoot it bare shaft with a field point.  The guys at black widow say that if that nock is right (as the arrow flys to your target), your spine is too stiff.  You obviously can't add length to your arrow, so use a heavier point to decrease the dynamic spine.  If your nock is left, the spine is too weak and you can cut a little off the shaft to increase the spine.

Hope this helps...do a seach on the forum for tuning and you'll get a whole book of info.

Yup sounds like your arrows spine stiff for your bow, that is assuming you are a right handed shooter. If so add some pointweight. If you are shooting lefty that would mean your arrows are a bit weak. In that case I would not start cutting the woodies I would first start by building the shelf out a little bit at a time.

You can put on 160 grain points; that may work. Jawge
