Jack, I am not a carbon guru. I struggled with them for a long time and kept at it to take advantage of the durability.
This is what I found.
My bare shafts fly to the same spot as fletched shafts. The do not always fly straight.
I found weight tubes to be a real pain.
I found my spine range to be opposite of almost everybody else. I shoot carbons that should be way overspined, and I too wondered if it was a sign of bad form, poor release, ect.
I will add, that after bare shaft tuning, I always shoot through paper. I get perfect holes through paper after about four yards. My bow is very quiet also.
When I finally shot through paper to confirm my arrows were flying straight, I quit worrying about the fact that my set-up is different than what it "should" be.
