Price of a Selfbow
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:54:00 AM »
I don't know if y'all saw it, but Shaun has made me a beautiful Osage selfbow   (Thread HERE)  in exchange for a damascus bladed knife.

I just got the knife finished up this morning. The blade is 1095 & 15N20, 300 layer ladder pattern, bought as a bar fom Mike Blue's forge. It's come out at 58/60RWC so I'm not too bothered, although the difference inetch is not great   :(

OAL is 8-1/2" with a 3-5/8" blade. I made it as a pin-tang to get as much blade from the steel as possible   :)

The handle is a mystery to me! I know I bought the wood about a year ago, butI'm darned if I ca remember what the heck it is! I think it might be Amboyna burl, but I'm not 100% on that   :D
The bolster I do know & it's aquamarine corian with a 1/16th black spacer.

That Corian with the black spacer really sets off the wood.

Looks mityfine!
What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

Very nice!  It is an odd match, corian with nice wood, but they work well together.
