Thanks again fellas. Walt, I spray the thunderbird finish on. However, I brush on two or three coats of the thunderbird laquer sealer to seal the pores first on the riser, overlays and tips.  Then I sand the sealer off starting with 150 grit and a sanding block then to 220 grit. The sanding block levels the wood better than your fingers 'cause it doesn't follow the low spots.  Also, don't try to force the thunderbird to lay down when spraying. It dries very slow and levels itself nicely. Too much material will cause runs. Mike
