I'm not a good enough leathersmith to post on my cross draws...but the are the only type of sheath I use.  They work well on small or large blades.  The single most important feature IMO has to be a means of locking the knife in the sheath so it doesn't fall out.  I do it with a free floating tab to match any cut out on my blade...Doc

Tippit, your leather work is progressing at the same lightspeed as your forging. Great looking stuff bro!

Tippet,

Do those hold the blade more horizontal than vertical??I'm looking to make a sheath for a small knife I made awhile back, and I really want it to sit horizontally along my side instead of vertically.

  BTW......very nice work on those!!

Varmit, They ride horizontal with a little tippit up (couldn't resist).  They will even ride right along the belt...Doc

el oso, They are actually better for fat people.  When you sit down or are riding in your truck, the knife rides parallel to your belt as apposed to sticking your belly!  Don't ask how I know that    Doc

Tippit, I don't understand "the free floating tab". Is that something inside the shealth that is not shown in your picture. Could you explain please? Very nice knives and sheaths by the way. Thanks, Glen

Tippit, I like that big bone handled skinner you have at the top of this thread.  How much to make me one just like it?

Tippit, Your right. crossdraws are beter for us belly boys when settin down, but I might still have to  use my left hand to get it out of the sheath. LOL.............                                                Yea Danny one would fit perfect under your spare tire.         :D
