I feel for ya' Brother.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Sometimes superglue or epoxy will come to the rescue.

can you cut it in a straight line and do and accent strip or something?
We should have shotguns for this kind of deal.

You might load that crack up with a litte super glue and clamp it closed.
Dan's idea is a great one!
