Which Helle blade for all around useage?

Hello,

I'm looking to buy a Helle knive for my
brother-in-law who got me started in hunting.
(I think I may even be able to pry the compound out of his hands eventually too!!.  I'v already got him down to one pin on his sight)
I just want to say thanks with a nice knife.

I want to give him a general all purpose knife but more for use in field dressing and skinning.  I've been looking at few of the Helle knives, but need some direction.  Here is the list.  Can someone point me toward a good fit?

Also, for sharpening these knives, will the KME sharpening system be recommended?  
My brother-in-law has taken a real liking to one of the electic sharpeners, the Presto 2 stage. I'm afraid that it will just trash the blade.  I've used it once or twice with some of his blades. Theres sparks flying and vibrations all over the place.  You can tell that the blades are being
"eaten" more than sharpened.  I just don't want to give him a good knife and then just trash it.

The Godbit is the best all around blade.

For sharpening, just use a good diamond sharpener.  I recommend a DMT diafold with the fine on one side and a medium grit on the other side.

Yup I bought a Godbit from Bob around 6-7 years ago.  They are great knives.  I have boughten many knives since then but my Helle Godbit is the only one I never leave without.

If you want to make one yourself, go with the Harding. I don't think they sell the Godbit blade separately. I've had real good luck keeping them shaving sharp using my butcher's steel, just like my chef's knives.

The Harding is a good choice.  

I prefer the Godbit only because the blade has a bit of belly to it and doubles nicley as a skinner.  "Back in the day" I could not get just the Godbit blade; don't know if that is still the same now.

I am still amazed at the value of the Helle line, can't buy a bettter or more practical knife at any price...and so easy to sharpen!

Never tried just a steel to sharpen.  Should work just fine.  Good idea.

Beachbowhunter...where about in Calif are you?  I used a mis-spent youth chasing yellowtail and tuna out of San Diego.
