TRAP

The watermelon scene is the funniest thing I've seen in my 46 years on this earth and I've seen some funny ****.  I think I'll watch it tonite when I finish fleshing coons.  Trap

I wish the outdoor channels would play some of those. They are my all time favorites and I still am impressed with you and your brother's shooting. I wasted some good years on compounds around that time. I'm here now and very thankful to rub cyber shoulders with you guys.

Barry gives shooting instructions in Masters of the Bare Bow 2 and Gene is in MBB1. You can get them at 3-rivers.

I remwmber wathching October Whitetails as a child, it started a fire that only grows I actually wore the tape out and my mother was gonna die if she had to watch it again, in my opinion is was and still is the best video ever made. I thank you gentlemen.

How bout telling us some stories from BOWI Barry?  Where was the video shot? Didn't they mention NY in the video?  What lead to the video being done?  Any "stories", etc.  It is a classic for sure if not the best bowhunting video.

I have the double DVD also. My #2 plays fine, but there is no voice audio on the #1.

I always wondered what happened to Ronnie Brown. Is he still alive after riding on the back of that truck with the sprayer?
If it's in your way, move it.

I think Barry is WAY shortchanging those old vids re their quality, especially BOW I.  The technology might not have been as 'fancy' but the organizational work, narrative, mix of solid facts/humor and especially the outstanding footage (like that all-time classic running shot with the follow-up eyebrow wiggle)...well those are just the best.  Like a favorite old bow or camp recipe there's something about those videos that 'fit' just right.  I really enjoy the Wensel/Blase 'skits'.  No info-mercials or ego crapola, just alot of fun in the woods...and good shooting to boot.

Like GregD said, I sure wish I had bought the Barry/Blase 'Instinctive Shooting' vid when I had the chance a few years back.  It was all of $5 on the trade blanket table for crying out loud...but NOOOOooooooo, I think I'll just look around awhile and maybe pick up on the way back through.  Yeah, like its still going to be there!  (just put me in the home for the galactically stupid).     :banghead:

Great vids.  Like the saying goes, they just don't make'em like they used to.

Count me as a fan of BHOW I & II.   BHOW one was the very first hunting video I ever saw.  I now have them on DVD.  They still hold up against the more "modern" DVD's.

I too can speak the phrases for Bowhunting October Whitetails I and II.  As a kid, I learned bowhunting all on my own with only books and videos.  It took years for things to finally come together.  The segment on whitetails jumping the string changed by bowhunting forever.  All these  years later I still remember....  After 4-5 years of watching my arrows fly over the deers back, sometime literally emptying a quiver full of 6 arrows on a single deer, I rented a copy of BOW I on a Friday.  The very next day, a 17" wide eastern 5pt buck and three does passed my stand. I aimed low and watched my arrow disappear into the elusive brown shoulder of that buck at 22 yards.  75 yards later, I was the happiest 15 year old you ever saw.  4 years of shooting over their backs had come to an end.  I watched the video again after returning home that day.  I couldn't believe it worked.  The following Saturday, another plump 5pt walked by my stand at 15 yards.  Again I aimed low only to watch the buck drop right into the path of my arrow.  The Zwickey zipped right through high in the shoulder.  One copy of the Bowhunting October Whitetails video, many years of misses and 2 bucks in two hunting days for a 15 year old.  Thank you Barry, Gene, Rick and everyone else involved.  You definitely helped create a bowhunter for life.  Sincerely, John

Barry Wensel

I'm tickled everyone enjoyed them so much. If you guys remember, when they first came out you could choose between VHS or Beta formats. I think they sold for $39.95 (almost $80. for two) and now you can get both of the original BOW I & II on one DVD for $13. One of the few things in life that's less expensive. Trap: the watermelon scene was for real. That was not acting. It was one take, as it happened. That's probably why it came out so well. Lin Rhea: what's a cyber shoulder? GrnMtnTradNut: there used to be a great rutting area near you at Green Mountain College when it was an all-girls school and I was in my prime. Mike Huff: I could tell you some stories but they'd be better around a campfire. Most of the footage was shot in eastern Montana (Milk River, Yellowstone River and Missouri River bottoms) and the hardwood scenes were in PA. Buckracks7: send the defect back for a new one.. no problem. Last I heard Ronnie Brown was still living in N.C. In fact, Rick Blase's brother Al will be hunting hogs with Gene and I at our pig-gig in Texas in a couple weeks, so I should be able to catch up on a lot of gossip after that. Again, thanks for all the nice comments. And... all that fancy shooting?? It was all trick photography and done with mirrors. There... I fessed up and now I feel better. bw

Doggone Barry that is so generous of you to replace the DVDs. Would you pm me an address to send it to, please?

The cornfield hunting technique is the only time I ever saw somebody explain how to hunt cornfields...even to today.  The scene with the buzzards was such a genuinely funny deal it always makes me smile.  This will be a timeless classic for many years to come...long after Barry's gas tank runs dry.  What part of PA?  I am in Lehigh County on the Eastern part of the state.  Great stuff

It was Lycoming County, north of Williamsport. Rose Valley near Trout Run. In fact, I shot a buck from a tree that is presently under water in that reservoir that's up there now. bw
