I was working on this saw blade knife blade blank well kind of.I worked in a machine shop for a bit and we used to send the saw blades out to be sharpend.The sharpener guy told my once the teeth side of the saw blade is way harder(welded on edge so it can be re-sharpend ???)then the blade.He said if you wanted to make a knife.Make the teeth side your cutting edge ??? I really don't know and was hopeing one of you guy's could bail me out on this one ?.The welded on teeth edge is super hard stuff ??? Is that the side to use for my edge and could it ever be sharpend.Thanks guy's.bd

heat treat all of the blades i make out of saw blades.  after i go through all of that it SEEMS to be pretty much uniform.  i dont know if this helps but its my 2 cents

I may be wrong but here are my thoughts...
The teeth area may be harder due to welding (essentially heat treating it), or just working it by cutting the teeth and bending them to the side.  
But if the blade is to be used as a knife, I think it would not matter one bit if you are going to heat treat it anyway.
If you don't plan to heat treat it, then you'll have to use what temper the blade already has and keep it cool while working with it (if you can hold it in your hand it won't ever get too hot).

Thank you guy's so much..Shoot I could not decide what the heck to do.So I went with Dan's idea and did not over heat the blade.Well so-far.I worked it with bare hands so when it got to hot to handle I cooled it down with some water ???? it did not get very hot.I did NOT use the teeth side.I will keep at it inbetween jobs.Again thank you guy's for your help.bowdoc

Looks good.  If you are holding in your hands, temps will stay well below 200F, and to alter temper it takes more temp than that.  I keep bucket of water handy for cooling the bladd.
