Hi Fellas,
A few weeks ago I picked up another hunter from Dan Winkler. I'm a bit partial to frontier style weapons and this fits the description IMO. Dan is probably one of the best in building this style knife. The sheath alone (made by Karen Shook) is a work of art.

Bob,
Jerry Fisk told me you bought one of Dan's hunters and I was wondering which one. That's a beauty for sure. I hope to see it sometime. Your right about Karen's sheaths. Lin

Bob, That indeed is one beautiful knife. I have a couple of Dan's knives from around the middle 80's...way before I even considered making a knife. He was my inspiration to make forged blades and still keep the rough forged look. Also the driving force to figure out his style with the raw flared finger guard that everyone here helped me solve (Keeslar style). Plus the way he gets the beautiful antique look to horn & bone.
Dan & Doug Campbell are the two makers that got me hooked! I'm floored ever time I see one of his knives...tippit
Here are a couple of his latest limited addition knives from a exclusive fly fishing catalog.

Doesn't get any better than that!

Daniel is number 2 on my makers list of 'Knives I
must
own. I love his 'crunchy' look. I know from experience that it takes a lot of hard work to make a knife look that 'old'

Bob,
Did Dan say what steels he used in his damascus on your knife?

Thanks for the comments fellas.
Jeffrey, I like how those knives are displayed. That's my next little project.
Lin, I'll need to dig up the info on the steels. Dan furnishes a little description with the knife, but I'll have to dig it up.

Striking.I know of an English feller that forges some really fine blades that remind me an awful lot of some of Dans fine work.Right Rob?

Bob, That is a wonderful piece. Dan is the only one I know of who can do what he does, and make it look good. Karen's sheath's are incredible!
Take care, Brad
