Staining Stainlees Steel

Hey guys......WOW this is the first time I came here to KnifeWorld.  Good lookin' stuff like usual.
I'm wantin' to know of ways to stain stainless  steel.  I thought about bluing them but don't think that'll work to well.
Saw some stuff, Birchwood Casey Presto Black Jell.  Smallest size, 1 gal. goes for about $140.  Don't wanna spend that much.
Anybody know of anything else I can use.  Mainly for broadheads, and knife blades.
  Any help greatly appreciated.....  :banghead:
