Knife for WIFE???????
« on: December 07, 2008, 09:40:00 PM »
Hey all
My wife will be doing her own hunting this year as I am away for a while.
I usually am with her and therefor we always use my knives to do the work.
I would like to get her her own hunting knife. A special one, that she will use for years!!
She likes my benchmade snody neck knife so I thought of that but would like some opinions here
Thanks
Jason

CHeck out the knifemakers forum. Lots of excellent blades in there and excellent bladesmiths.

I would try to find something around the sponsors here.  I always prefer handmade stuff and supporting those who support the site is just good form.

If you can't find something I can suggest a few:
For a necker and a hunter I love the Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight.  Don't know if its "special" enough.  Pretty utilitarian, but I love it and wear it around my neck most of the time when I'm out. It's definitely named appropriately!

For some "pretty" production knives look at Barks Rivers. They're all classic designs and you can get some very "special" handle materials. They make some that could be worn as neckers as well.

I missed out on a really nice knife i wish i bought. A.G.Russel had a "japanese hunter" knife with "white" steel. They still have the one with "blue" steel but the white steel is Rc 64. They sold out but if they ever get these in again-i'm there! Should get and hold a RAZOR edge well beyond most. Just need to keep it oiled or waxed(hot dip in bees wax) since it's not stainless. havn't seen this knife anywhere else.

ok, found a better one i like even more, Fallkniven TK-5, or the Fallkniven F1BM. I found best price at "battlematrix" online. It's all in the steel and shape for handling. VS-10 steel for the F1BM and 3G for the TK-5. VS-10 might be easier to work with for sharpening. check these out before you committ to lesser quality steel.
