Thats why it's called learning...
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:54:00 PM »
I spent 5 hours on a knife today. making sure all was symetrical, my bevels were how I wanted them, filework, etc.

I fired up the forge, hit it with the leafblower, and my blade fell into the coals...

Getting bright yellow/almost white hot, before I could get it out.

I then (like an idiot) quenched in 20 some odd degree motor oil...

Heres the end result of all my hard work...

And heres one alongside my other blade, still in one piece almost ready for the oven..

wow that would have a been a great looking knife. patience is a must .. That is something I have very little of. I want it done yesterday. Try again and make that knife. It will be a great looking knife for sure.<><

I know just how you feel did the same thing it hurts but it will get better. take that broken blade glue it together and use it to trace out the next one and then hang it on the wall as a reminder.
