Blackwood "Defender"
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:27:00 PM »
I hope this photo communicates how cool this Blackwood turned out to be. It's just not that often that I find blackwood that has FIGURE! This actually has a few eyes on the obverse side, as well as some burl.
Hand filed into shape to fit right smack in the "pocket" of your hand!
The 5 3/4" clipped blade was forged from large stock 5160, and selectively hardened.
The stainless guard and un-seen finial are designed for full take-down accomodation.
Balance point is right where the handle material meets the back of the guard.
Heavy leather sheath.
Should make a really nice belt knife for roving, or simply to toss in the back pack or Bug-out-Bag.
Thanks for letting me share!

When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Very similar.
I think they are from different families, though. If I'm not mistaken, one of them is a "rosewood" and the other, well, isn't.
The Ebony is a BIG family that stretches from Africa and Asia to Australia and Alabama - just kidding.
