Wrought Iron Close-up

I thought the fittings on the Bowie I recently posted really deserved a closer look.
I love using it because every piece is just a little different than any other.

I have a 2 coal forges out the the shed and do a little hammering my self. I my self have hammered a little Wrought Iron. It is not at all like Hot Rolled steel. It will move like butter but because the structure is more like steel cable it will split far more easy.

Bob, if you forge wrought iron you need to forge it at a yellow heat to keep it from splitting.
No, that wrought iron was made in 1903.
Not forged at all. If you forge wrought iron the grain structure will refine and you lose the deffinition.
It's just stock removal from some flat material.
