First blade roughed out.
« on: March 13, 2009, 11:02:00 PM »
This is my first blade. I did all the work with a hacksaw and files and some emerycloth. Its made from 3/16 O 1 steel and I think I might be ready for heat treat. Does anyone know of someone who would heat treat it for me? Also I didnt know if I should file the edge down to much before I get it heat treated?. Its about the thickness of a nickle. Any advice would be appreiciated. Thanks

Doug
i'm new at this but i have made 9 knives so far, you can heat treat it yourself, i bought some brick at ellis custom knifeworks, (there is a thread on this from jeremy), get you 2 plumbers torches and the brick and you can heat treat it, i'll inclose some pictures of mine, (but make your hole about 1 inch NOT 1 1/2, i had to make a new one). there is a lot of guys  here that know a lot more then me but i have not had any problems so far.
by the way thats a good looking knife,

hope this helps
