So, like the heading says, I finally finished my second knife, my first from saw blade to finish. I cut it from a 10" table saw blade forever ago, and it's been sitting in my garage on a shelf for months. I finally had to burn a bunch of scrap wood a week or two ago, and decided to try to harden the metal, and I think it worked. Anyway, here it is. It's about 4" blade length. The handle is aromatic cedar finished with brass pins. The handle drops a little too much, but hey, it's my first!
And here's my try at an artistic shot.
How'd I do? The sheath is a quickie made from some scrap leather, but it works.
I have questions also. I have a ton of shed antlers from a guy at work. How do I use them for a hidden tang knife? What do I do with the brow tine? It seems like a lot of you use the butt end of the antler for handles, but I never see where the brow tine was. Do you just cut it off? Also, how do I cut the slot for the tang? Would it be easier to do a full tang instead? Thanks in advance for the advise. BTW, here's all the sheds...
