Mustard Patina
« on: March 29, 2009, 06:36:00 PM »
Well, since I've seen some of the finishes put on knives using mustard.
And, since I happen to have a couple too many homebrew beers last night.
I just happen to have this Charlie Ridge knife that spends more time in my pack and in the sheath than it does the light of day.
So, this is what happened.

I actually like how it turned out and I think it will see more use now.
My son I think wants to steal it because he said now its and Alien knife, if you look close it kinda looks like an Alien head/body on the blade.

That is pretty neat.  How did you get the pattern, if I may ask?

I just squirted mustard on the knife blade.
I kinda did squigglys and let that dry for about 8 hours. Then I washed that mustard off and went with vertical lines and let that sit for about 4 hours. Then I washed that off and this is what I got....kinda fun, I may do more.
Can you see the Alien?

"They" say it is.
"They" say it will take sandpaper to get it off.
I'd bet the more you left it on, the more it would acid etch the blade.
Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about. This is just crap that I've read and decided to try.
Maybe one of the knife gurus will chime in and set the record straight on if its durable or not.
