Hunter for Blade Show
« on: May 11, 2009, 11:44:00 AM »
I finished the knife a few days ago. It's a very small carbon steel hunter with Amber Stag scales. All of the fittings are Stainless. The blade is a hair over 3 inches with the OAL of 7 1/8 inch. If you get to the Blade Show, I'll be at table 23-P, right next to Karl. Lin

Last year Lin's hunter won "Best Utiility Hunter" in the ENTIRE Blade Show!
I hope he enters this one this year!

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Ian,
I usually buy mine dyed, but I have used leather dye with some success. Fiebing's Leather Dye. I get it at a shoe store. It works pretty good, but wait till your sanded to shape before applying it. When you get to Blade take notice of Culpepper's table. The table number is in the latest Blade magazine. They are some fine people and do good work with Stag. Lin

Steve,
I was scheduled to, but there was not enough students to hold the class. It's a shame. I was looking forward to it. However, one of the students came to my house for a few days for a cram course on forging, heat treating, etc. He built a complete Camp knife while here. We also built a test knife which we put through the paces after which we bent it 90 degrees. It worked great. I really enjoyed that. Of course the guy was a real outdoorsman and a fine person, so that sure helped make it a pleasure. Lin

I have a devil of a time trying to make a thong tube blend in with rough stag like that.  Looks like you've got it down.  Beautiful knife.
