Ironwood Spearpoint
« on: August 04, 2009, 08:32:00 PM »
This knife is for a fellow Tradgang member that will carry it while bear hunting with his trad bow. He says he just wants a little something in case things go wrong. I know he will mostly use it for skinning and camp use, but it sure made me double up my efforts to give attention to detail as far as construction goes.

The blade is 6 3/4 inch of 5160H in a slightly dropped spearpoint. The guard is hammered stainless and the wood is Ironwood. The sheath is going to be a high ride cross draw with and extra frog loop to make it ride lower and also make it easy to slip on and off without having to loosen the belt. I dont have the sheath yet. Lin

Lin, That looks like a knife that can do it all...Beauty!  But I'm not sure I'd like to be using it in close quarters with a bear...much prefer to have a slower partner  :)   Doc

Thanks guys.

Tim (Chinook907), I know you will like the feel of this handle. The Ironwood is a nice piece. Since this wood is so smooth, I domed the pins to help in the indexing and grip.

I spoke of the construction. The tang goes back to within a half inch from the end of the handle, as I usually do, but I made it slightly thicker and wider than usual for this size of knife. I also do this on my camp knives.

I plan on making this knife again. My wife helped me name the model. We call it "Vencedor", meaning winner or conqueror. Thanks, Lin
