Elk Blade
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:50:00 PM »
Seems like every time I go on a new adventure, I need another knife.  After being with Iron Bull on the Ryegrass Ranch & seeing the sight of the Green River Rendezvous, I needed to go back to my old style of more hammered blacksmith blades.  This style seems to suite me better as none of my blades ever come out perfect anyway.

I have a pile of real nice handle material...mammoth tooth, deer-elk-sheep-moose antler, and plenty of nice exotic wood that seems to show up in my mail box  :)   But for a Fur Trade blade the trappers would have been carrying a forged blade from a local blacksmith  with a wood handle or a trade Green River blade.

So for my first ever elk hunt with Doug & Claudia, my Elk Blade is a very rough forged 5160, OAL 7 1/2 inches, hollow ground with a piece of throw away knotty-wormy Osage...Doc

Nice one Doc.  You better take Little Miss Pinecone something...she's got a lot of elk to work on this year!

Doc I like your style and I love Osage!  Great combo for sure!

Will you get to go to the power hammer school too?

Good luck on the hunt!  Which bow will you take?

Steve

Great lookin blade Jeff. I've always liked the hammered look of your older blades. The OAL is about perfect for extended use work and that knot in the osage is neat!
I reckon so
