HELP!! Is there a how-to flat grind out there?
« on: October 10, 2009, 10:59:00 AM »
I cut my blank and ground to shape but haven't got the hang of flat grind by freehand yet, so I'm wondering if there's a good "How-to" out there. I currently have a 4x36 belt sander and a 1x30 belt sander both with an assortment of belts. I also have some files but don't want to spend an eternity doing the bevel.

start grinding,  when you have a pile of "steel dust" below your grinder thats about 3 feet tall,  you will know how to flat grind.

Kidding aside,  ive never used any videos, or even had anyone "teach" me,  but I would say the video by Harvey Dean would be a good place to start if your looking for info. on flat grinding.

Harvey does exceptionally clean grind lines, among the best there is.

I use jigs. No shame in wanting a straight grind.
