First forged knife

I thought i would share what i have learned at the hammer-in in old washington Ark.
I did this the sunday after the hammer-in
3/16 steel 1 1/4" bar stock
A big Thanks to Lin Rhea
 
 
Now it took me about 2-3 hr. to get it to this point, not to bad for my first one.
the next picture is after the grinding, total time about 4 hr.
 

I thought everything went fine, but then i though about the steel and where i had got it from, sure enought a piece of (homedepot steel) that was left over from making my knife vice,
All i can say is, it was very good practic.

Dana, great job on the forging and grinding!  I love the blade profile!

A hammer-in can save you weeks or months of trial & error when you're learning to forge.

Great shape on the blade! Now get yourself some 1084 (relatively simple to heat treat)& make the real McCoy!!

They will get easier as time goes by  ;)
Great shop and neater than mine,just keep adding those tools,looks to me like what a guy needs never ends  :biglaugh:

     That's a good forging job, especially for your first. I took a few pictures of the Hammer In, but I saw you taking some too. Are you going to post some in another thread? Lin

Lin, i did take some,and i can put them up, but you might do some also, i only have 4-5 pictures,
I"ll start a new thread and you can add some pictures to it

the maker of the vise is me, i looked at some pictures and tried to do the best i could and it works good  :goldtooth:  i just used the stuff laying around the garage.
