velcro arrrow rest question????
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:04:00 AM »
i was plannig on going down to walM#$% in a little while and buying some velcro for a rest for my new longbow.
but i dont really know what im doin.. do i use it fot tha side plate and the rest? or do i only use it for the side plate, and try to find a piece of leather for the rest?

also, if i do buy the velcro and put it on the bow, do i leave a little gap between the rest and the side plate for feather clearance. or do i buttthe tight together?   :banghead:

oh, and how the heck do i stick it to the bow? i dont know if glueing it would be ok?????

i need some advice here friends...

I use the fuzzy side of the velcro for both the shelf cover/rest and side plate. I leave a small groove between the side plate and rest, but I don't know if it is really necessary. As far as sticking it to the bow, just buy the peel-and-stick velcro preferably industrial strength. You can cut a small piece and place it under a larger piece to build up the rest/side plate if you need. This will help the arrow have a very small contact point.

Hope this helps  :)

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

Jamie...  First things first. The Velcro you get at Wally World will be self ahesive. Don't worry about how to stick it.

While Velcro (the fuzzy side of course) can be used for the rest and arrow plate, I find it changes centershot too much for my liking.
That being the case, I only use it for the rest and use thin leather for the arrow plate.

Get a bottle of cheap contact cement for the arrow plate. It'll hold the leather good and tight and yet will come off with a little effort when you want it to.

Some guys worry about putting a gap between the rest and arrow plate for feather clearance... I don't and never have.
Think about it... they're feathers!

One last thing. You'll see that they have what they call industrial strength velcro... get that.

Velcro is all I use, plus I'll use it on the limb tips to quiet any string slap. Works great, lasts a long time.

Same here, but I usually take a pair of scissors and trim down the thickness of strike plate.  That way it doesn't get to much in the way.

It depends, I use the industrail stuff from Wal-Mart and if the bow is cut well past center I use it for both, if the bow is cut just past i use a thint piece of leather. Shawn
