"Black Creek" Hunter

Just built this for Jim Gainey, "Black Creek" Bows.  Forged 1095 blade, 4-1/4" long  x 1-3/8" wide  x 3/16" at thick at ricasso.  Handle is Desert Ironwood,  stainless guard.  Differentially heat treated using clay,  400 grit belt finish, light etch to show hamon.

I dont make as many hunters as Bowies/Fighters/Choppers, but I think im going to do more of them in the future.

I could!  Matt could send it to me for Christmas, of course I would give it to my wife as an awesome gift, and because she loves me so much I could carry it with me everywhere I go, maybe with the possible exception of work.  But, only then could she handle it!

I don't think that is too much to ask!!

Rooster,  on this one I just wanted to show the primary hamon line, wasnt trying to pull out any of the small details.  What I did was take it to 400 on the belt,  then with a cotton ball dipped in ferric chloride I went up/down the blade evenly until I was happy with the etch (probably about 30 seconds per side).

Then hit it with a light buff and there you go, a nice working finish that shows the hamon but you dont have to spend hours on hand polishing.

that is one great looking knife, here is a dumb  question, what is ferric choride? and is that what everyone uses to etch with?

Dana, also known as "Archer Etchant"  you can get it from most Radio Shacks.  Pretty much  the standard of what folks use to etch.
