A bowyer friend gave me a couple pieces of African Blackwood that had some sap wood veins in it. It is pretty amazing to work with...probably the most dense piece of wood I've handled. I couldn't grind a taper unless I used a 36 grit belt. Even then the resins of the wood gummed up my belt. When I finally got it finished, it was like a piece of marble without any pores to fill.
For those who have worked with Blackwood, do you seal/finish it or put nothing on it? I can't imagine any finish sinking into it. It seems to have more resins than cocobolo or ebony. I'll take a picture of the handle tomorrow and post it. Thanks for any input...tippit
