D2 Knife made for a friend
« on: May 04, 2010, 07:04:00 PM »
After I got the knife making "kinks" out on my first knife, I proceeded to make a second knife for a friend who has been waiting patienly for years for me to re-start my knife making hobby. 3.75" long blade is made of mirror polished D2 tool steel. Handle is cocobolo. Regards, Mike Okamura, Boise, ID

Looks great.  What motivated the high number of pins in the handle?  Looks good, just seems like a lot of them.  Mirror finish,  nice looking and long in the process to get them there.  Nice work.

Hi Clay,
10 pins just "felt" good for propotion. I've also used "Loveless" style screw pins for handle with good results. D2 tool steel is very wear resistant, and has a good amount of chromium in it, so it seems to take the mirror polish well. It's been my favorite steel for use on hunting knives. Regards, Mike O.

I am liking your knives. I also like the way your pins are "fanned" out with the handle lines. Lin

Thank you very much Lin. I'll try to post my last folder I made 12 years ago, but I've got to find the darn knife first. It's in my hobby room somewhere....
