lookin for a big chopper for shooting lanes

When I walk in the woods I usually carry two knives while hunting, one of my many hunting knives usually with a 3 or 4in blade in my pack and a pocket knife or neck knife for general utility. I dont normally like big knives but lately I have seen a use for mabey a camp knife with a 6 or 7in blade for clearing shooting lanes and building brush blinds during bow season, can I get some picks of your choppers to get some ideas for making one and can someone recomend a good factory one I can get before I get around to making one?

I'll 2nd what Tim said. I got a "hawk" last year and IMO it is the best for clearing and building blinds.

Without wanting to put you off, a 6 or 7 inch blade isn't really big enough for clearing brush. If you really want a knife or chopper, go bigger. 10" or larger would be a lot more use. a 6" knife simply doesn't have the weight in it's blade to chop very well. By the time you're at 10" the blade weighs more than the handle (usually) which is essential in a chopping/slashing blade. This is where my 15" bladed Khukri really comes into it's own   :D  
To be perfectly honest you'd get a lot more use out of a good pair of pruning shears & a folding saw.

Ide say a big 10-12" Bowie style chopper works best in the woods, at least it does for me.  I can cut about anything a small axe/hatchet can,  and also do alot more with it if need be.

I had a woodsmans pal and I used to carry a machette for a living. I HATED HATED HATED the woodsmans pal. Best thing I ever saw was either a Christmas tree pruner that looked like a break knife, or better yet, a homemade machette a co-worker had that was made from an old handsaw blade, had a leadfilled pipe handle. Absolutely deadly on anything it came in contact with.

I use a STIHL 036 with a 20" bar it's great for clearing shooting lanes.    

Haven't found a nice sheath for it yet!

that chopper is just awesome tippit. really.... awesome piece of work.  that design is similar to what I have in mind to make for myself. Reminds me of the Sooke Mountain.

I sure like that pair of knives. If I could make knives I would like to make some just like them, but unfortunately I do not have that talent. I am always drooling when I see your knives.
