Spine Question: Just making sure
«

I'm getting ready to purchase my first cedar shafting and want to make sure I'm getting the correct spine. I have a recurve that pulls 50 - 54 lbs peak weight and my arrows will be 29 - 29.5" long. It looks like I need 65-70 spine. Everyone agree?

Jeff,
Come south to Jeff City this weekend for the UBM Banquet and we can solve your problem.
Bring your bow.

I pull 55-58@29 and have the arrows cut to 30.25" and shoot 70-75# tapered cedars, 5" Shields, with 135-160g heads. I have shot these out of several different bows (Morrison, Widow, Kempf) cut from center to past center. All with 8125 or D97 strings.

BodarkOkie,
I'll have to see what is going on this weekend. It would be great to get some first-hand help. Do they have cedar shafting and stuff for sale at the UBM banquet?

The way I do it is add 5# if the bow is center cut. Then 3-5# for every inch that your drawing over 28" if that is what your bow is marked. Like 50#@28". If the bow is a self bow don't sdd the 5#. What is your bow marked 50 or 54#? If 50# add 10# and shoot 60# spine up to 64#. Thats the way I have done it for 49 years. "Bear"
