Bowfishing
« on: January 28, 2008, 03:44:00 PM »
Good afternoon, i just had a couple of questions about bowfishing as i am thinking about starting.

1. Whats a good draw weight? I have a tiny Korean 50 pound recurve i was thinking of using.
2. I only ever see people hunting carp and gar, how is trout fishing with a bow?
3. What tackle (reel, arrows, etc.) are affective but not expensive, and were should i buy them?
4. And finally does anyone know any good locations in the Central Vally/ Sierra Nevada area to fish?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bow fish with light bows, 45#'s so I don't shoot completely through the fish. Pain in the butt getting the fish off if the arrow goes through. Shooting trout would be great fun but I bet you would get a ticket sooner of later. A cheap line holder is a small plastic soda bottle tapped to the bow. Don't use the best bow you have either.

Be wise when choosing what it is you're bowfishing for.  All states are different on it, and check your local regs for what is and isn't allowed since there's no catch and release in bowfishing.

Game fish are pretty much illegal to shoot with a bow.Check your regulations.
