hardwaymike handle along
« on: April 21, 2011, 03:36:00 PM »
I was asked by a fellow member to do a quick build .
I know Mike is going to build with a Helle blade and this isn't but the steps I use are the same.
First is the materials we need , 2 part epoxy ,blade , saw , sandpaper , file and blue painters tape
The firts step is to mark the handle length.

I then cut to length , remove finger gaurd and mark the hole for drilling.
I drill top and bottom of the slot and remove all material in the middle to depth needed for the tang.
I mark the sides and file or grind off the sides to fit the finger gaurd.

after that I mix the epoxy and and fill the hole leave room for the tang, the blue tape keeps you from cutting your fingers and keeps the epoxy off the blade.

I set the blade up with a clamp and let dry. Yopu can now spray on finish or leave as is . Mike if you have any questions just ask. Drew

With the Helle, do I need the finger guard? The one that I have does not have one.

I like the look also but have a shortage of brass laying around, lol. I think I am going to use the part of the antler that attaches to the head as the "guard". Thank you again for doing this for me Drew.

:biglaugh:  Toecutter, that is quite funny, lol.

Drew did you see the longhunter that john posted? Could I use a copper cap like he did for the finger guard? Thanks, Mike.
