Elk huntin knife?
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:59:00 PM »
I'm planning my first DIY elk hunt this fall and would like to get a new knife for the occasion.  If you had $150 to spend on a knife for this purpose, which knife would it be and why?

4 inch drop point hunter or skinner. Light and easy to carry. Either will do everything you need on an elk.

You will have to be in great shape (3 mile jog in 30-35 minutes or less) if you're hunting in the west. Equipment you use must lightest possible for the given task, and that goes for the knife too (per Rangnarok Forge, above).
Good luck!  Mike O.

Yep, a 4 inch is perfect for carry and can skin about anything you'll run across. You might consider the handle material's weight but I would not let it be a deal breaker if you're inclined to buy from a prefered maker.

I placed an order today with Karl Andersen.  I don't think I'll be disappointed. Thanks.

Probly the best move you could have made, im gonna do the same thing when I get the $ together.

As for having to run 3 miles in 35 minutes, it would definatly help you,  but its not required. Ive never ran 3 miles in my life. Lol
