W2/Koa

Man, knives are just poppin' up everywhere these days!
That's cool.
Here's a W2 Hunter with Damascus Take-down fittings and a stabilized Koa handle.
I can NOT! capture the character in that handle with my meager photography.

Nice Karl, love that hamon. I just sent out a 20 lbs. box to W.S.S.I this week. As it goes right now I'll be at Blade on Sat. hope to see you then and good luck. Moon.

I know how that is with Koa. It is very hard to capture its true beauty. That is a wonderful looking knife.

Just got a block of Koa-hopefully mine will look that nice finished.  If only I could form the handle as nice too....  How do you finish your blade so the hamon shows up so well without having a really shiny finish?  The only tutorials I've seen for hamons end in polished blades but I like yours better.  Great knife.

Karl, I'd say you got the hamon thing down. That is ripped! Wyatt says that. I think it's a good thing.  :saywhat:

Yep, I'd say it's pretty "ripped" too Karl...

Tough getting old and not being able to keep up aint it Lin  ;)  Had a kid come wheeling in the drive the other day. I thought what the heck is that 13 year old kid doing driving around with his 12 year old girl friend... Turns out they were 25 & 24... Karen thought it was funny...   :banghead:

I take the blade to a clean 1200 grit.
Etch 3-4-5 times for about 60 seconds, cleaning off with 0000 Steel Wool each time between etches to see how deeply it has etched.

When I like it, I neutralize the etch.

Clean off the oxides as well as I can with 0000 steel wool and then wipe the blade with automotive mag wheel cleaner.

Done.

Don't forget - no matter how you etch and sand to expose your hamon, you can't expose what's not there.
