I'd save them to use as a tool and buy knife steel for knives.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Yes, and don't do it!.  Simmonds files are  expensive.  Poke around flea markets, fleabay, and talk to buddies who work in local machine shops to get used files for knives.  Wear the new files out and then make knives out of them.

Most Simmonds files are either 1095, or a modified W1 tool steel. They will make a great knife if you have the ability to heat treat them properly.

Listen to the pro's as in kbaknife.  Call Kelly Cupples or Aldo to get your knife steel, or find a local auto spring shop and they can sell you 5160 drops from making springs.

I love me a nice big Simmonds file for bow work.
Good files.
