Neck Knife

Here's a commission I just finished up.

The knife is composed of 3/16" L6 tool steel. It is 6 3/4" OAL with a flat ground 3" cutting edge. The scales are lacewood with alternating black and white vulcanized liners. There are 2 3/16" steel pins holding it together. It has some simple filework along the spine and a filed in thumbrest. It has a rounded and mirror polished choil, as well as the blade's spine and ricasso also being polished.

This one was fun.

Good looking knife.  Quick question on the handle-is it stabilized?  I used some Lacewood but had some significant problems with it splintering out...  I've got a decent amount left and like the look but need to find a better way to finish it or get it stabilized.  Thanks

Jeremy,

 It splintered if I wasnt real careful with it. You cant work it with a rasp or rough file without it splintering out either. I just roughed in the shape with my belt grinder then took to hand sanding with a few coats of superglue towards the last few grits.

It would probably be much easier to work when it is stabilized, but I didn't have enough trouble with it to justify stabilizing, IMO.

Thanks for the info-I used a rasp/file, so there ya go  :) .  Glad to know if I use some less aggressive means I can do a bit better.

Thats a working blade design and the thumb cuts on the blade always give that extra blade control. keep it dry and oiled L6 makes a great cutter.

Dang thats a beauty.Kinda cool for me to watch the immense progression of a lot of you folks on this forum. Not that yours were ever bad but the style of this blade clearly shows that youve come far. Congrats.
