Broken tip
« on: July 21, 2011, 07:57:00 PM »
I broke the tip off of an Old Timer Stickfinger.  There is about 5/16" open on the end.  It has sentimental value to me.

I was thinking of cutting backside of blade out to the sharp edge to give the point again.
Will I ruin the temper?

Any ideas are helpful!
Thanks,
Joshua

Post a pic of the knife and it will help.  If you are going to do it yourself and do not want to heat treat it then go slow in the belt sander, dunking in cold water often so you don't loose the temper.

Okay, I can do that.  I was thinking of using a bandsaw, but the belt sander makes more sense.  I keep it at my parents farm so I will get pics next time I am down there.
