Moran Shop Forging
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:46:00 PM »
I am a member of the W.F. Moran Foundation and we had our monthly meeting/work shop at the Moran shop this morning.  There were 9 members interested in Knife making in attendance. We discussed some Foundation business and got to look at six knives from Mr. Moran's personal collection that will soon be part of a exhibit in Arkansas. I had the honor of forging a knife for the group!  I forged a small "Green River Skinner" from some of Aldo's 1084 steel.  I forged the blade on the anvil and drew out the tang on the 25 lb. Little Giant power hammer!

The blade is 5" and should come out to 10" OAL when complete.

I am one of four people to forge in the Moran shop since Mr. Moran passed.  This is a fantastic opportunity I have to attend these meetings/work shops and plan on taking full advantage to learn from Mastersmiths A.G. Barnes & E. Jay Hendrickson and JS Shawn Hendrickson.  Very good Stuff!

I bet that was a blast, I would love to go to another one. I would also think there is a lot of history there. Be sure to show the knife when your done.
