First full tang hunter - Pic
« on: September 09, 2011, 12:08:00 AM »
Here's my first attempt at a full tang handle using the sportsman's blade from Jantz.  I'm pleased and already started working on the next one.  Both knives will be gifts to my brothers.  Take a peek at this iPhone photo.  Handle is rosewood.

Thanks for looking.

Good job Rusty, your brothers will enjoy them.  Look forward to pics of the 2nd one.  Are you making sheaths for them as well?
cheers, Dale

Thanks guys.  I forgot to mention, I was anxious to get the first pic up, so this one doesn't have a finish applied just yet.  I have to get a hair's thickness off of one of the back pins and apply the tru oil and it'll be done.  I also forgot to photograph the file work and will get that pic up tonight when I get home.  As you can guess from the time of the post, I was tired when I threw it up here.

Dale, I'll be making sheaths for each of them.  Since I don't have any leather stamps just yet, I'll likely just do a simple molded pouch for each.  I shaped the scales for the second knife last night and hope to have it done this weekend while the tru oil sets on this one.  I'll be sure to post the pics.

Thanks again, guys.  Here's a pic of the cross I did on the butt end of the tang.  Another iPhone pic, I'm afraid.  Once I get the finish put on, I'll try to get some better pics with the camera.

I just noticed that in the pic there's a tiny shadow on the let side of the bottom part of the cross that looks like a gouge.  It's just a shadow.   :dunno:

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, guys.  This is actually the same knife as in my more recent posts, but before finishing with hand sanding and TruOil.
