i finally got a rigged up propane forge going. its made with 24 hard fire bricks out of a boiler and for a burner i have an antique cast iron lead smelter for doing lead plumbing. the burner puts out alot of btu's but is very touchy about the wind blowing on it. it also has a really bad hot spot. but its a forge none the less and i have got pretty good with it considering what its made of.
here is my first forged knife attempt. the steel is a piece of rebar , terrible steel i know but something to practice my hammer blows on. OAL is 8" and blade is 3-1/8" and has a sinew wrap handle nothing fancy but looks like a knife and would prolly hold a edge to cut a little something.
my second forged knife is a beaver tail throwing knife. they are used in tomahawk and knife throwing compitions at primitive camp outs and blackpowder shoots. the steel is a piece of leaf spring. OAL
