« on: September 26, 2011, 06:25:00 PM »
im building a gas forge and im having trouble figuring out the burner. i want a air forced model.  i dont understand how most burners are made.  does it have to be a mig welder tip?  can it just be a very small hole drilled in a piece of gas pipe?  and im also looking to price fire board, fire bricks, kao wool and ict-100.  what are some good websites to look at and order from? any and all help is greatly appritiated im about to go crazy figuring the burner thing out, lol.  :dunno:

if you google gas forge you will find all the information you need from building your burner to insulation,  One of the sites shows how to build several types of forges out of several different items and also sells all the parts needed.

Google Zoeller forge-it is one place to get supplies, but there are a lot of possibilities.  Check if you have a pottery supply place nearby-they'll likely have Kaowool and ITC 100.  As for design, you can do a search on here and see some good pics of Karl Anderson's forges to get a good idea.  You can use a needle valve for the gas instead of a MIG tip, it just depends on the design you go with.  Search the internet and you'll find a bunch of different models and styles.  Forced air can actually be simpler to build than a venturi style burner.
