Camp Knife

Lin helped me get this one started. He encourged me to make a knife for the Piney Woods hammer-in cutting competition. 10" blade forged from 5160 round stock. Walnut burl handle.

when building knives for that type of compition, how hard will the blade need to be and when sharp and ready do you make them razor sharp or will they dull faster that way?

I think that's the pic I saw on the ABS forum-great job at the competition.  I'm really liking that knife and the design.  I'd posted a question over there about making a camp chopper for my dad...I may be stealing your design.....if'n you don't mind..  :) .

JD, as far as how hard I will have to defer that questoin to an expert. I went to Lin for the heat treat due to inexpieriance. Keep in mind this is just my third completed knife.                       I got mine as sharp as I am able. In my mind with proper temper and edge geometry I can't see how a sharper knifer could dull faster. I am convinced that a reasonably sharp knife with the correct edge geometry will out perform a perfectly sharp knife with poor edge geomtry.        Chris

Kevin, I actually missed on that cut. It was three bottles one one both sides vertical with the center horizontal. The cut was supposed to be through the first into the second through the cap all the way through the bottom then through the last one. Thanks for the offer, I will probably call for help on my first folder after seeing your outstanding linerlocks.  Chris
