whats wrong with my burner?

i have built a forced air burner and i tried it out tonight and i had it pretty hot but gas could just barley be cracked open at bottle.  i had no regulator or needle valve , this was just a test run to see if it would even work.  the results i got were not great.  as you can see in a few of the pictures the forge is blowing orange flames out of the opening really bad.  i dont know if it will help or not but the size of hole in my orafice is 1/16th of an inch. is that to big ? to small?  just looking to get some advice to get the burner working smooth and hot.  all tips and advice is welcome. here are a few pictures to help diagnose the problem.

I would stop using the forge till you first get a regulator. A red one. Locate it near the bottle. Also, can you show a complete over view of the forge? The blower included?

the bricks stacked there is my forge for now and the blower is a hair dryer at the top of the plastic tube.  pretty rigged up to see what it would do just dont really know what kinda gas psi i need and how to hook up the blower. and how much air it needs. i know that when i light it without the blower on it just has big slow rolling flames going everywhere but when blower is turned on it kinda works but gas can just be a crack open of kills off the flame. thanks for your help lin.

You need a low pressure regulator (red) set somewhere between 5 and 10 lbs. Start low. I would get some of the flexable exhaust pipe you see in auto parts stores and get rid of the plastic. I think it's 2 inches X 24 inches long. When you get it to where you can change the pressure and air flow, you will see that it can be "tuned" and it will get hotter faster and make it's own unique sound. I listen for any changes in the sound while forging. This let's me work while being aware of the staus of the forge without having to literally watch it.
