52100 Heat Treat

I ended up with a couple of good sized roller bearings a few weeks back, which I assume thanks to people on some other sites are 52100.  All I've got to work with right now is a charcoal forge and regular kitchen oven, so is it going to be possible for me to effectively heat treat this steel?  If not, would any of you guys that have the proper tools be interested in trading for some simpler carbon steel?

You just get them ready and I'll help you with the heat treating.

Jonathan mate I use the same equipment as you on that steel and have had fantastic results.I do all my work at about non magnetic including the heat treating after normalising and quench in oil and then temper in the wifes oven so no probs at all.As I said I can not get over how sharp an edge this steel will take and hold done like this and I am no expert.Dont over think it mate its only steel..

Thanks guys!  I'll give it a shot on my own, but if I can't get a decent edge I'll get up with you, Barry.  I kinda dread working these things down    That's gonna be a workout.

You will get the most out of this steel when you can hold it at the proper temps for long periods.   Take the offer for heat treat help and you will be pleased with the results.

Two words: Ed Fowler. The triple quench is easy. Finding the quench ant Ed uses is not.
