forging metal into knives?

I'm curious what types of metals can be forged into a knife?  I've got some old truck parts that I think would be pretty cool to turn into a knife.  I've got some SS valves and some cast rockers.  Is it possible to rework this stuff into a knife?

I don't have to equipment or the knowledge to do this myself, but I'd be interested in getting it to someone who can.

       Is there some sentimental attachment to those old truck parts that makes you want a knife made with it? The best old truck part you can use for a blade is the springs. The rest would just be a lot of work that might not make a good knife. The springs, at least, have good potential in the right hands.

       Let's say there is a sentimental connection with a particular vehicle. You'd have to ship the piece to the maker. If you get someone that is willing, you might be prepared to cut the stuff into pieces to ship. To answer your question, yes, it's possible.

There is no huge sentimental attachment to the parts, I just thought it would be cool to have a knife that used to be part of my truck engine.  I figured those parts are made of good metal as they take a lot of abuse in the cylinder heads.  If I don't make a knife with them they're just going to the dump...

The engine parts are a specified steel or iron, but exactly what would be out of my area. A good bladesmith could test about any steel and see whether or not it would make a knife blade but that could be very time consuming. A leaf spring is another story. They usually make good blades. Please dont be discouraged, just pick the right piece and somebody might be able to do it.
