Cactus Juice
« on: December 23, 2012, 05:12:00 PM »
Will our horse trailer is packed to the gills with mostly my toys...bows, fly rods, forging equipment, hunting gear, and some horse stuff for my wife along with 3 horses & 4 dogs!    We are headed to Aiken, SC for the winter on the morning after Xmas.  Nothing to do with everything packed & presents wrapped so I though I'd try to finish a blade with some burl wood that was stabilised with the MesquiteMan's Cactus Juice method.  I had posted about this process last summer as a way to stabilise your own wood.

This burl finished up nicely.  Now to see how it actually holds up with a little hog skinning over the winter.  If it works out, I'll be doing more...tippit

OAL: 8 inches of 52100 steel

It's more how well the burl holds up.  If it resists shrinking & expansion due to heat & humidity, then it's probably worthwhile doing some home stabilising.

Great knife, Jeff. The 52100 is great steel, the workmanship is outstanding and the handle is beautiful.
