Forged blades on the bench

I have not posted in a long time, but I thought I would put this up.  Here are some on the work bench that I am building for the Canadian Knifemakers Guild show.

A 7" cocobola coffin handle Bowie from 1084.  A 8" Flaming walnut fighter forged from 1084 with a hamon under the tape.  And what I hope to be my main piece, a 12" D-Guard from W2 that was clay quenched.  It still has a long way to go, as the fitting need final shaping and polishing.  Then the bow and final need to be hot blued.  The blade needs to be polished to 1500 grit and etched.  Hopefully I can get everything done in time for the show.

I really like that coffin handle bowie so far... what type of guard are you planing on putting on it?

David the coffin handle will be getting a styled stainless flat guard and a line cut spacer.  The handle will be a black micarta frame with file worked stainless liners and finished of with Cocobola scales.  1/16" pins will hold it all together.

Thank you Kevin, it has been very difficult to find shop time the last few months.Now I really have to spend some long nights in the shop in order to have some knives done for the show.  Bedtime has been around 3am and up in the morning for my 8 to 5 job.  Doesn't help making thing twice either, the first d-guard blade cracked when I didn't get it into the temoering over quick enough after quenching it.

Well, finally got one finished!

12" of W2 with a real good hamon.

The handle is Desert Ironwood with Stainless ferrule, spacer, and end cap.  The bow and final are carbon steel that has been plum brown (muzzleloader barrel finish) finished.

Four more to go in order to the a good showing on my table at the up and coming show.

Hey James, do you have a better photo of the one that looks like it has tape on the blade? The knife I got from you a few years back is a great knike and I was thinking of maybe getting one a little bigger. The one with the tape might be it if it isn't spoken for.
