Tippit Junior...1st Knife
« on: July 31, 2013, 06:02:00 PM »
My son Zach has a blacksmithing shop/business (Daisy Creek Forge) in Crested Butte, CO.  He does home items like fences, gates, railings, signs, Aspen trees, flowers...anything to bring in a paycheck.  I had suggested he do a few knives during slow times.  Here is his first one that he plans on using to skin an Elk this year.  Yes...he has taken up the longbow too!  Proud Dad  :)

JMR,
The Z mark is his forge mark for the custom iron work.

Sockrsblur,
I think my mountain climbing days for elk are over...darn old knees   :(   Zack spends a fair amount of time in the back country  having climbed all the mountains around Crested Butte for back country skiing.  Zach hasn't hunted out there yet but last year he helped his buddy scout out some nice bulls. When his buddy didn't take a shot at a 7x7, he said that was the match that lit the hunting fire for him.  For the past two years, Zach has come to our Aiken, SC farm to hunt hogs and loves it.  He has always been an extreme sports guy with bowhunting a bit sedate for him....but the thrill of Hog hunting & getting close to that Big bull has started his bowhunting journey! He has been in Crested Butte for the past 8 years and has the legs & knowledge of the back country.  I'll just have to live my elk hunts through him from now on...tippit

Age sneaks up on us all to some extent. Its often hard to give time its due while you are young I think. I enjoyed hearing a little more about Zach. Keep us posted... I would love to see a photo show up on pow wow of his knife laying on brown elk hair

I live in Montrose, Co. Next time I'm up that way I'll have to go check out his shop. Very nice blade!
