another bow build hicup/question
« on: February 01, 2008, 03:26:00 PM »
I am building a binghams T/D longbow kit and have just finished laminating the limbs.  When I finished I found out that the limbs slid slightly to the side during lamination.  Now I know that this isn't ideal but surely the limbs aren't garbage right

Whwen I set them on the ground butt to butt, perfect limbs would line up with thier centrelines touching right.  But my limbs the centre is off by an 1/8th of an inch.

Do I just remark the new centre and go from there or what?

So I assume that I am not the only one that this has happened to, do you guys have any tips.

Thanks
Allan

Pictures would greatly help.  My guess is that you are OK, (hard to tell for sure w/o pics), and remarking the centerline and go from there.  Might end up loosing a few #'s due to narrowed limbs, but definitely not trash.  Unless your form is set up for zero slide, marking the centerline before glue up doesn't do much but add some frustration and extra time.  I always mark after glue up.
Good luck, it won;t be your last bow, so make notes you can refer to on the next one.  Relax and go slow, there really isn't all THAT much you can do to completely trash a bow if you go slow and think it through.

Alan, Square up the limbs and mark a new center line.
