Stag Clam shell bowie {sheath pics added}
« on: April 04, 2014, 10:42:00 PM »
I have showed some work in progress pics on this one here...
   http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=110;t=004958
But I thought this knife deserved its own thread IMHO.
They are doing a bowie theme at this years OKCA show next week, so I thought I should do something nice. I was fortunate enough last year to bring home best bowie, and this will be my entry for this year.

It has a very nice piece of natural stag, with great color and texture. The fittings are blued mild steel and the spacers are copper.
OAL is 15 1/4. The blade is 9 3/4" and about .260" at the ricasso. It has a nice distal taper down to a fine point and balances right at the ricasso. The blade steel is 1075. I still need to make the sheath, hopefully I will have time next week.

Let me know what you all think. Any and all comments are welcome as always.
Thanks for looking!

I just finished up the sheath this morning.

Great looking knife, Ben. The only thing I like better is a tad more taper in the stag. But frankly, that's all kinds of nit-picky    :knothead: . Your fit/finish has gotten really great and that, coupled with good designs, makes for very "clean" knives. I enjoy very much getting to see what you come up with. And since you've gone full time, I get to see more knives more often    :thumbsup: .  I look forward to hearing how you do at the show. Have a great time and good luck with your Bowie entry-betting it'll make a "splash".

Thanks very much guys! These "fancy" knives are not what I normally make, so they can be kind of nerve racking.  :)

Here is a link to the show info. Definilty worth the drive if you can make it.

Ben, that is a very nice knife.  The size and profile is most appealing and the stag is really nice.  The S guard and Hamon pulls it all together.

Nice work.

Always great to see your work Ben.  I really like the way you keep challenging yourself with different styles and ideas.  I imagine that helps keep things fresh.  This is a beautiful knife!
