stump shooting points
« on: February 02, 2008, 01:23:00 AM »
looking for some ideas for points when stump shooting. I use woodies so it has to be something you glue on. I know some of you are very creative, so lets hear it.

I use steel blunts or the Ace Hex blunts.  I have in the past used a empty .38 or .357 casing.

Why not try the HTM Rubber Blunts? I think they are great for stumping with woodies.

I would definitely reccomend the HTM blunts. the reason I like them is because when you use any type of steel point, then from nock to point, there is no "give" or flex in the arrow, so if you hit something too hard, the shaft breaks. If you are using a rubber blunt, then the blunt will flex upon impact and drastically reduce breakage. And they don't bury in the leaves.

Judo's or tarantula's can't be beat...

Judos! Greatest invention since a pocket on a T-shirt. I have used the .357 casings also with good luck.

Most of my stump shooting is in sage and the only thing that works well is the judo point.  Can't find anything that has a chance to go thru the bush and skip.

I've got about a zillion 357/38 cases. How do you guys put them on. Do you add any weight to em, most seem to weigh around 75-85 grains? I guess you have to put a normal taper on the arrow so the case will fit?

I cut the arrow off square, and there's still a little extra room (11/32 shaft).  I cut off a strip of soldering lead of the right length to bring the overall weight up to 125 grains and melt it in the bottom of the cases, then glue the cases to the shaft with hot melt glue.

Judo are the only points I'll use when roving - anything else gets snaked under the turf and lost for good.
